Based on contemporary research and our experiences working with hundreds of health
care clients, this article provides a forum for health care leaders to understand
and engage their staff in more effectively intervening regarding patient and family
abusive behavior. We take a prescriptive approach by sharing a model that provides
a context for engaging evidence-based strategies for de-escalation and systems approaches.
