Technology can be a powerful enabler, but it is insufficient on its own to create a broad cultural shift. At Solaris Health System we decided to ensure that clinical transformation is more than just a buzzword in the central New Jersey facilities. We shed the status quo method of implementing piecemeal procedural changes to find truly effective, comprehensive solutions that give nurses more time for direct patient care.

To reach this point, the leadership had to recognize the hard truth that every system is perfectly designed to achieve exactly the results it gets.1 Accepting this reality meant improving performance by dramatically redesigning entire systems of care. To that end, we engaged our frontline nurses as the primary drivers for bedside care improvements.
