The nursing shortage in Colorado, like so many other areas of the country, is significant. It is estimated that there is currently an 11% shortage of nurses, two times greater than the national average. Many hospitals have over 50 openings for professional nurses. Without a significant increase in the production of new nurses, this shortage is projected to triple to 30% by 2020.1
